Q. What is the difference between Horticultural and Toughened glass?
A. Horticultural Glass:
Horticultural Glass is made by the Rolled Glass Process
The rolling process is used for the manufacture of horticultural glass.
The process is achieved by rolling a continuous stream of molten glass between water-cooled rollers.
When Horticultural glass breaks it splinters leaving sharp jaggered edges which must be handled with great care.
Toughened Glass:
Toughened safety glass is manufactured by subjecting final size panes of glass, to a heating and cooling treatment whereby high compressive stresses are set up at the surfaces with balancing tensile stresses in the centre.
The high compressive surface stresses give the toughened glass its increased strength.
Toughened glass can break under extreme loads or by severe impact with a sharp object, but breaks down into virtually harmless particles. |
